Who would have thought a Jumanji continuation would have worked 20 years later? Oh, the person casting The Rock in the title role and bringing along some other awesome actors from Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan. Thanks director Jake Kasdan! The first film that debuted a couple of years ago was very good and looks like Jumanji: The Next Level is even better as it premiered in the #1 spot at the Box Office this weekend. The movie was able to snag $60 million, which is pretty great considering the first movie debuted at $36 million.

The rest of the Box Office stayed about the same way as Frozen 2 and Knives Out took spots 2 and 3. Newcomers Richard Jewell and Black Christmas rounded out the rest of the Top 5. Disappointing news for both of those films as they likely won’t survive the next weekend galactic onslaught. See the rest of the Top Ten below.

  • 1. Jumanji: The Next Level $60,100,000
  • 2. Frozen 2 $19,182,000
  • 3. Knives Out $9,250,000
  • 4. Richard Jewell $5,000,000
  • 5. Black Christmas $4,420,000
  • 6. Ford v Ferrari $4,143,000
  • 7. Queen & Slim $3,600,000
  • 8. A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood $3,355,000
  • 9. Dark Waters $2,000,000
  • 10. 21 Bridges $1,190,000

Next weekend, is the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. We’ll just go ahead and let that dominate things until February pending the butthurt fanboys will get off their high space horses and JJ sticks the landing. Find out if it does on the next edition of Weekend Roundup!
