It looks like Rom Com’s are officially back, or at least that’s the case with Crazy Rich Asians. The John Chu-directed film topped the Box Office for the 2nd weekend in a row by taking in another $25 million. That’s only an 8% drop from its premiere last week with $34 million. The film has already received a greenlight for a sequel and certainly ushers in the idea that romantic comedies could be making their return outside of Hallmark movies and Netflix.
The premieres of The Happytime Murders and A.X.L. didn’t fare quite as good as CRA. The films debuted in 3rd and 9th places with $10 million and $2.9 million respectively. You can see the rest of Top Ten below.
1. Crazy Rich Asians $25,010
2. The Meg $13,030,000
3. The Happytime Murders $10,020,000
4. Mission: Impossible – Fallout $8,000,000
5. Disney’s Cristopher Robin $6,340,000
6. Mile 22 $6,030,000
7. Alpha $5,600,000
8. BlacKkKlansman $5,345,000
9. A.X.L. $2,939,356
10.Slender Man $2,785,000
Next weekend we have the premier of the Ben Kingsley and Oscar Isaac film, Operation Finale. I’ve seen absolutely nothing about the movie, so I doubt it’ll make much of a dent in the Top Ten. Find out if what happens, or doesn’t, in the next edition of Weekend Roundup!
