I’m on the fence about seeing the American version of the Park Chan-Wook classic, Oldboy. The original is so fantastic, with the ending so messed up; it’s going to be a real miracle for Spike Lee to come close to that. Below is the one-sheet for the film which has a couple of things to note. The title is actually written in star, Josh Brolin‘s handwriting, based off the letters he sends to his daughter while imprisoned. Also, there’s a girl in the background holding an umbrella with hashtags on it; a bit different than the original poster eh? Guess we’ll have to wait til October to find out.

Here’s a synopsis of the film:

When he is inexplicably released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who orchestrated his bizarre and torturous punishment only to find he is still trapped in a web of conspiracy and torment.

Oldboy opens October 25th, 2013. The film stars Josh Brolin, Elizabeth Olsen, Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Hornsby, James Ransone, and Sharlto Copely. Spike Lee will direct the remake.
