Last week we announced that Edgar Wright had stepped way from directing Marvel Studio’s upcoming adaptation of Ant-Man. The official word is that he left the project over creative differences on the script that he and Joe Cornish had been working on for the last few years. With that devastation, there was a director and writer hole to be filled.

Today, we have the announcement that Peyton Reed and Adam McKay will be directing and writing the movie, respectively. Reed is best known for directing The Break Up and Bring it On. Neither of those translate to a superhero movie, but he’s also done work on Mr. Show with Bob and David as well as The Upright Citizens Brigade; so we know he at least will add humor to the mix.

McKay on the other hand, has a very expansive resume, including Anchorman, Step Brothers, The Other Guys, and more. He’s worked with star Paul Rudd on multiple occasions, and I believe that it’s going to make for an interesting script on this film. The Marvel movies have always been more jovial than serious, but the teaming up of Reed and McKay pretty much guarantee this as a straight-up comedy film. McKay has dabbled in action with The Other Guys, but this will be the first real foray into this genre.

Here’s the official press release:
