There was a time when I thought that Black & White comics were lesser than the colorful pages of DC & Marvel’s superheroes. How could you possibly convey a story with only two colors? So, when my friend threw down Sin City in front of me around the Fall of 2000, I had no desire to read it.
‘Come on man, you’re going to love it! It’s the guy who wrote The Dark Knight Returns.’ he said.
‘Yeah, that story is amazing, but his artwork is…weird. Plus, this is all black and white.’ I retorted.
‘It’s not ALL black and white dude. Come on, just try it.’ he requested.
So, I gave in. Little did I know I’d come to love Frank Miller‘s artwork, and I’d come to love his writing even more. Sin City has always resonated as one of those amazing stories that I love more and more with time. In 2005, when Frank Miller teamed up with one of my favorite directors ever, Robert Rodriguez, to bring his comic to life. Well, we all know that it was a match made in gory heaven.
Below, we have storyboards from their upcoming sequel, A Dame to Kill For. If you’re not familiar with Miller’s original comics, well the storyboards are literally just panels from the comics. They are amazing, they are noir, and I really hope they release a whole book just with these frames.
Here’s a synopsis:
[box_light]Sin City: A Dame to Kill For weaves together two of Frank Miller’s classic stories with new tales in which the town’s most hard boiled citizens cross paths with some of its more repulsive inhabitants. In Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, Dwight is hunted down by the only woman he ever loved, Ava Lord, and then watches his life go straight to hell. Chronologically, this story takes place prior to “The Big Fat Kill” (featured in the film Frank Miller’s Sin City) and explains how Dwight came to have a dramatically different face.[/box_light]
Sin City: A Dame to Kill For hits theaters August 22, 2014. The film stars: Josh Brolin, Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Bruce Willis, Rosario Dawson, Jaime King, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Eva Green, Dennis Haysbert, Christopher Meloni, Christopher Lloyd, Powers Boothe, Jeremy Piven, Jamie Chung, Ray Liotta, Juno Temple, Julia Garner, and Stacy Keach.
