If you were excited for the new space-based combat Star Wars game where you got to finally fly around in an X-Wing and other great vehicles from the SW universe, forget it. The previously announced Star Wars: Attack Squadrons has been canceled by Disney Interactive who have decided, after releasing the beta, to “invest their money” into other Star Wars games.

We want to thank all of the fans who participated in the closed beta of Star Wars: Attack Squadrons. After much consideration, we have decided to cease development so that we can focus on other Star Wars game experiences. We truly appreciate the time you spent engaging in the beta.

It’s really too bad, as a fan of the classic X-Wing/Tie Fighter and Rogue Squadron series, it’s about time we got an updated game based on space combat! But this is the third game to be canceled since the Disney takeover, 1313 and Darth Maul were scrapped when LucasArts was dissolved. So who knows when we will get a decent game set in that galaxy far, far away.

May the Force be with You!
