Today you Star Wars fans out there are in for a treat courtesy of NYCC and DFAT! DFAT was able to attend some great panels today, including one for the upcoming animated series, Star Wars Rebels. For what little they could show us due to the fact that nothing has really been animated and no has been cast in the roles, I was very impressed by what we got to see. The main concentration of the panel was on the Empire and we got to see some great shots of starships and what the Imperial troops would look like. Borrowing greatly from Episode IV and the work that Ralph McQuarrie did for that film, a lot of the designs are really starting show how the  two arcs will be connected by this show. After the success of The Clone Wars, Rebels looks to capitalize on some of the familiars that we all love while adding its own flair as we approach the next Galactic Civil War. Unlike The Clone Wars, the good guys do not have unlimited resources and it’s not that easy to wage war against an entity like the Galactic Empire. Take a look at some great concept art that helped to create new and original environments for the show.

No word yet on who the characters will be, or who the main cast will consist of, but what we do know is that there is always the possibilities of some familiar faces showing up. But its pretty easy to know who will be representing the Empire, and the show will be taking place as the Empire is slowly clenching the galaxy in its hand. Check out some of these great concept designs for the ships and troopers that will be featured on the show. Oh you may wonder what has happened to the Clones, well some have decided to stay and train the imperial troops because they can never forget their programming. Some of course have disappeared into the nothingness, and some are slowly running out of time due to their excelled growth and aging process.

Something cool was announced today, something new as in a new character that will be joining the Star Wars Universe, well kind of. The Imperial Inquisitors were introduced back in the late 80’s/early 90’s but did not end up sticking around as a popular character. In Rebels, Darth Vader will have the Imperial Inquisitors as his “Hand” and they will be the ones who will be tasked in hunting down what remains of the Jedi in the galaxy. They definitely seem to be Sith to some extent, but we will have to wait for more details on these new exciting characters.

I am very excited for this show, yet its kind of crazy we have to wait almost a year for its premiere. Star Wars Rebels will debut on the Disney Channel in Fall of 2014 and then make its transition over to Disney XD where the show will run weekly. Look for more news coming soon including who we can expect to show up to support the Rebels, because truly this is their show and I can’t wait to see the development and growth of this rag-tag band of freedom fighters, here’s hoping for a young Princess Leia at least to start. I also see no reason why Han Solo can’t show up, maybe we will even see how Chewbacca was saved by him. Who knows really the possibilities are endless. One thing we do know from the panel is that the Star Wars Underworld will have an influence in the Galaxy as well so be ready for Bounty Hunters to show up, I’m sure we will see a Boba Fett story at some point. Check out these two videos straight from NYCC featuring some of the great talent from the show as they walk you through the show’s development!

With Episode VII fast approaching in 2015, it will be exciting to return to our favorite time period of Star Wars history as we explore what happened before and after the 6 films.
