Star Wars has used Tunisia for five of the six films, when there have been scenes shot on the desert planet of Tatooine. We have news that the conditions have been too harsh at the African landscape, and now Abi Dhabi will take it’s place in the upcoming Episode VII.

From what little we know of the film, director J. J. Abrams has wanted to be as faithful to the original trilogy as possible, and going back to the Home planet of Luke Skywalker on Tatooine makes sense. There’s also rumors that we’ll meet a descendant of Obi-Wan Kenobi, who spent many years on the planet, watching over Luke.

Star Wars: Episode VII marks the return of Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford as Luke, Leia, and Han Solo. Peter Mayhew will also return as Chewbacca. The film is written by Empire Strikes Back scribe, Lawrence Kasdan and will feature composer John Williams for the score. J. J. Abrams will direct.
