I’ve expressed on numerous occasions that I believe the Clone Wars animated series is probably the best representation of the Star Wars prequel universe that exists. Many, including myself, still have a sour taste in their mouths from the TERRIBLE movies that Lucas put out, but I insist that anyone who is a Star Wars fan that hasn’t watched the Clone Wars to give ’em a try. I actually never watched the movie that kicked it off, but from what I’ve heard it is not a good intro to what this series really has to offer. I actually didn’t get hooked until the end of season one, from there on this series really shines. The writing, the character development, the politics, all of these things are taken to a level that I would never have expected from a show aimed towards children. Now we are 5 seasons in and the events that occur during Episode 3 are fast approaching, and characters that were introduced yet don’t exist in the later Star Wars universe dictated by the movies will basically have to die, that’s about the only option there is. One, and the only one that would make a major impact on the storyline up to now is Ahsoka Tano, Anakin’s apprentice since the beginning of the show and a character that has kinda grown on me, it is inevitable. I am excited for this season, Darth Maul returned last year and I am eagerly awaiting to see how this storyline plays out. For those of you that think this resurrection is forced, please check out Star Wars Visionaries, an EXCELLENT TPB comic book, released in 2005, that told some untold stories of the SW universe including one where Darth Maul (as he appears in the Clones Wars) is hunting the twins down and finds Obi Wan on Tatooine (I won’t spoil it for those of you who want to check it out, and I insist you do). Here’s the promo poster and a new clip for season 5 starting Saturday, September 29th at 9:30 on Cartoon Network!!
