So, the other day I went on and on about how I thought the poster for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 poster was a fake, then lo-and-behold, Sony announces it’s real. Before, I get into all that, I want to share with you guys 5 new images that are also official, and that I am ACTUALLY excited about showing off.
So, those are pretty much what I expected to see from the film. Spidey flying around, being all snarky as one of his villains chases after him. What I did NOT expect to see, was the poster below, which I will rant about just after you click on it and zoom in on the atrocities committed by Marc Webb’s marketing team.
The problem with this poster, and I went into it a little bit in the other article, is that it’s just TOO MUCH! It’s an amazing concept, don’t get me wrong; but The Rhino that looks like a Transformer and adding GREEN GOBLIN to it…well it’s these kinda shenanigans that made Sam Raimi’s, Spider-Man 3. We all remember that don’t we?
I’d be ok with The Rhino being more mechanized, if only I could distinguish him as an actual rhinoceros. There seem to be a lot of bullets coming from the top of him, no distinguishable eyes, I GUESS that’s a horn on the top. I just hate everything about this design. Then, you have the introduction of The Green Goblin as played by Dane Dehaan, whose playing Harry Osbourne. NOT Norman!
We haven’t even met The Osbournes yet and we’re going to see one of them show up as a main villain!? Come on! Not only that, he looks like a creepy little gremlin, instead of a Goblin! It’s a franchise that’s been around for 50 years. You can keep it fresh by killing him, cloning him, bringing him back and inserting Doc Ock’s brain inside of him; but with that rich of a history, can’t you at least make the Green Goblin look like a GOBLIN!?
I have to stop because I’m getting agitated about this, and I want to save some of this fire for after the trailer that premieres on Thursday December 5th. Stay Tuned for my inevitable rant on Friday.
