Denzel Washington is one of those actors that can be good in any role. He’s like Tom Cruise, where he just kinda shows up in a movie, and you know you’re going to enjoy himself. His next film, The Equalizer, puts him in the role of a former black ops agent who has to protect a young girl whose being harassed by Russian mobsters. He ends up kicking a lot of ass. What more could I want?

The film reteams Washington with director, Antoine Fuqua (Training Day), and Sony is already prepping the film for a franchise. Given the success of great actors beating up people in movies becoming franchises, (Taken anyone?), I’m sure this movie will garner a sequel.

Here’s the official synopsis:

[box_light]In The Equalizer, Denzel Washington plays McCall, a former black ops commando who has faked his death to live a quiet life in Boston.  When he comes out of his self-imposed retirement to rescue a young girl, Teri (Chloë Grace Moretz), he finds himself face to face with ultra-violent Russian gangsters. As he serves vengeance against those who brutalize the helpless, McCall’s desire for justice is reawakened. If someone has a problem, the odds are stacked against them, and they have nowhere else to turn, McCall will help.  He is The Equalizer.[/box_light]

The Equalizer is due out September 26th. The film is directed by Antoine Fuqua and stars: Denzel Washington, Chloe Grace Moretz, Melissa Leo, Martin Csokas, Haley BennettDavid Harbour, and Bill Pullman.
