Cary ran his piece of sand paper against the plaster figure. Slowly whittling away the rough edges on what would eventually be considered his masterpiece. At no point in history would he ever become anything close to famous, in fact, he would be considered, by many artistic scholars, a mediocre creator with an unastounding vision. His art on the other hand, this piece in particular, would go on to change the world.

Marvel Knights 20th #1 (of 6) (Marvel)

Donny Cates (W) Travel Foreman (A)

Fuck. I am so excited for this. Donny Cates is at the helm of this event, that seems to be just a taste of what is to come with the imprint. Cates is running the show here and I think this will spin off into a new Daredevil series written by him. Who knows though? I’m sure a lot of people who aren’t me.

The Green Lantern #1 (DC)

Grant Morrison (W) Liam Sharp (A)

I am so excited for this book. I love Morrison and he is promising a back-to-basics space-cop procedural story. That being said, it looks like Hal meets God in issue three. So, you know. More Morrison-y stuff.

Moth & Whisper #3 (Aftershock)

Ted Anderson (W) Jen Hickman (A)

This book is really fun. It’s an interesting idea that is handled with beauty and grace. I always like to support the smaller presses, and books like this really make it worth our time to do just that. Read this book, read this publisher.

Border Town #3 (Vertigo)

Eric M. Esquivel (W) Ramon Villalobos (A)

This book had me on the fence with issue one. I was afraid it wouldn’t be my cup of tea, but any doubts I had were dashed once I read issue two. Read this book. It is 100% worth your time.

Farmhand #5 (Image)

Rob Guillory (W/A)

While I like this book and the vibe, I cannot deny that it is fucking strange. Strange like nothing else, that’s a powerful compliment. Well, you know, for me it is.

Death of the Inhumans #5 (of 5) (Marvel)

Donny Cates (W) Ariel Olivetti (A)

This is a crazy big event in terms of the Marvel Universe at large, but for some reason it feel like it has been isolated from the rest of the Universe. I feel like that’s the biggest death blow to the Inhumans. Obscurity.

The Dreaming #3 (Vertigo)

Simon Spurrier (W) Bilquis Evely (A)

Dreams are getting weirder. In a bad way, not like the normal weird way, but in like, you know, a not so normal kinda way. Or whatever. Man, I’m fucking good at this.

Justice League #11 (DC)

Scott Snyder (W) Francis Manapul (A)

So, there are two crossover events happening right now, and this is my least favorite of the two. That being said, you know, it isn’t horrible. That’s a plus.

Batman #58 (DC)

Tom King (W) Mikel Janin (A)

I think a lot of people are upset about this team up. I feel like I’ve been talking about people being upset a lot recently. If you or a loved one are upset about comics, stop it, no one cares. You don’t even care. You think you care.

Sideways Annual #1 (DC)

Grant Morrison/Dan DiDio (W) Max Raynor (A)

MORE-ISON! HAHAHAHA GET IT! HAHAHAHA. BECAUSE IT’S MORRISON, GET IT? HAHAHAHA HE’S COMING OUT WITH TWO BOOKS THIS WEEK! HAHAHAHA GET IT?

Runaways #15 (Marvel)

Rainbow Rowell (W) Kris Anka (A)

I can totally try to convince you to read this book again, but the reality is, if you haven’t started yet, you will not start reading it on my recommendation. I am deeply upset about this. Validate my emotions.

Dead Rabbit #2 (Image)

Gerry Duggan (W) John McCrea (A)

This book reminds me a lot of a couple book I love deeply. It bares a striking resemblance to Kill or Be Killed with a little Criminal injected for good measure. Someone call Brubaker and Phillips. They should sue. Totally.

Leviathan #3 (Image)

John Layman (W) Nick Pitarra (A)

You know you’ve wanted an overly graphic giant monster comedy with a little Satan mixed in. You know, strange ideas like this are what we are lacking in media that aren’t comics. Seriously, if this was a movie, people would shit their pants.

The Wrong Earth #3 (Ahoy)

Tom Peyer (W) Jamal Igle (A)

This book is incredible. So far, this is the best book from Ahoy, and that’s saying something, because everything I’ve read to this point has been incredible. The concept is genuinely intriguing and it’s pulled off expertly.

The Immortal Hulk #8 (Marvel)

Al Ewing (W) Joe Bennett (A)

This book is fucking insane. The cover isn’t bullshit. This actually happens. It’s fucking crazy.

Blackbird #2 (Image)

Sam Humphries (W) Jen Bartel (A)

Holy shit. The first issue of this was mind blowingly good. The dream team did not fail to deliver. It set up something, then teases us with that familiar unfulfilled feeling we all feel every day, but this time you don’t cry in the shower.

Seven To Eternity #12 (Image)

Rick Remender (W) Jerome Opena (A)

After a month break, the prettiest sci-fi fantasy story about a family out on stands this week. This book is dense. There is so much world building in this book, so satisfying watching everything unravel. It’s great and stuff. It’s good or whatever. You know?

Redlands #8 (Image)

Vanesa R. Del Rey (W) Jordie Bellaire (A)

This book is gorgeous. That is all. Well, it isn’t, it’s much more than that, but you have to read it.

The statue before Cary took a deep breath in. The plaster cracked and Cary, dazed from days without sleep, yelped in surprise. The figure stepped off of the pedestal, looking around curiously and idly pulling white chunks off of its skin, like an egg unraveling from its shell.

“Who am I?” The newly formed life said to its bewildered creator.
