Thunder plagued the sky on the night of what was once a calm, warm summer day. Rain came suddenly, the wind kicked and screamed against the vinyl siding. Kathy’s window shook as she lit the candles around her. She love the storms that came this time of year. Something about the safety of the house in such a chaotic atmosphere soothed her. Her cat, Siddhartha, had curled himself around a pillow and watched as she paid tribute to the Mother. A crack echoed through her house, this one louder, continuous. Suddenly her whole house shook.

Ether: The Copper Golems #1 (of 5) (Dark Horse)

Matt Kindt (W) David Rubin (A)

Not really a new series per se, but one I am excited is coming back. The first is a brilliant series that has some seriously depressing undertones and themes. I also love mini series, so that’s even better for my wallet!

New Challengers #1 (of 6) (DC)

Scott Snyder/Aaron Gillespie (W) Klaus Janson/Andy Kubert(A)

Another new series spinning out of Metal, but this one is helmed by the dude who did that series, so you know, it may actually have something to do with it.

A Walk Through Hell #1 (Aftershock)

Garth Ennis (W) Goran Sudzuka (A)

The talent on this book looks incredible, not to mention the the gorgeous cover. I am really excited for this one. Aftershock has a pretty great track record.

Justice League: No Justice #2 (of 4) (DC)

Scott Snyder/Joshua Williamson/James Tynion IV (W) Francis Manapul/Marcu To (A)

Fantastic opening to this mini, but you know the rule about weeklies. Top of the stack you go!

Dry County #3 (of 5) (Image)

Rich Tommaso (W/A)

This series is dry and slow, that doesn’t mean it’s bad, it’s just this sort of creeping story that has completely absorbed me. It’s probably not for everyone, but it’s definitely for me and if you like odd crime stories, it’s for you too.

Curse Words #14 (Image)

Charles Soule (W) Ryan Browne (A)

I feel like this series hasn’t been my favorite recently. The first arcs were perfect to me, but now I feel like they’re treading water a little. It’s still fun, and beautiful, and goofy, but I feel like some of that initial punch is missing.

The Punisher #224 (Marvel)

Matthew Rosenberg (W) Stefano Landini (A)

BORN IN THE USA! I WAS BORN IN THE USA! Frank come back to the states, if you couldn’t figure that out from the context clues.

Captain America #702 (Marvel)

Mark Waid (W) Chris Sprouse/Howard Chaykin/Leonardo Romero (A)

That was unexpected. The true reaction from yours truly after reading that last issue. I really love this idea and it came out of nowhere. Fuck yeah.

Daredevil #602 (Marvel)

Charles Soule (W) Mike Henderson (A)

Man, this series is better than it has been in a while. That’s not meant to diminish this series, it’s always on my top books list, but this arc feels fucking fresh and new and punchy and I love it. I am a happy boy.

The Avengers #2 (Marvel)

Jason Aaron (W) Ed McGuinness (A)

Holy hell, that first issue was fucking great. I am really pumped for this run. You should be too.

Moonshine #10 (Image)

Brian Azzarello (W) Eduardo Risso (A)

I found myself a little lost last issue, but then I realized I was a moron and I figured it out. That’s my story. Hope you liked it.

Jimmy’s Bastards #8 (AfterShock)

Garth Ennis (W) Russell Braun (A)

Yeah, still never sure when this one is actually coming out. You have all missed my great wealth of humor, but every time it’s supposed to come out I write a little blurb like this that will probably be deleted, mentioning that it will probably get deleted. Yeah. You probably won’t see this. If you do, good for you.

The Wild Storn #13 (WildStorm)

Warren Ellis (W) Jon Davis-Hunt (A)

I feel like this may be the issue where we delve into the people behind the scenes of this giant clusterfuck of aliens and powered people.

Deathbed #4 (of 6) (Vertigo)

Joshua Williamson (W) Riley Rossmo (A)

Love this book. The end.

Batman #47 (DC)

Tom King/Sandu Florea (W) Tony S. Daniel (A)

Not my favorite Batman arc, but it sure as shit is fun. I can’t argue with that.

The Archies #7 (of 7) (Archie Comics)

Alex Segura/Matthew Rosenberg (A) Joe Eisma (A)

Dammit, I’m sad that this comic is ending. Hold me.

Infidel #3 (of 5) (Image)

Pornsak Pichetshote (W) Aaron Campbell (A)

This book just got picked up to become a movie and I will be there opening weekend dammit. This series is terrifying. You not reading it should be a crime.

Gideon Falls #3 (Image)

Jeff Lemire (W) Andrea Sorrentino (A)

God dammit this series is incredible. I can’t really explain it. Maybe devil stuff? Maybe crazy people stuff? Interesting stuff, that’s all I really know.

She stood in the pouring rain, assessing the tree that had fallen in an almost perfect crest around her roof. In the brief flashes of the lightning, she could see the jagged base of what was a healthy branch. The placement made no sense to her. It should have crushed her roof. It should have landed in her room. Somehow it didn’t. She saw a face in a flash of lightning. Her feet slipped in the mud and he fell backwards onto her arms. Laughter creeped between her lips.
