Blood pumps hot behind his eyes. That dagger of pain he has become so acquainted with digs in a little further into the gray matter in his head. Bird calls ring out like shots. It’s another hot day, another day Harris decided he’d torture himself. This time by accident, he had locked himself out of his apartment and his roommate wasn’t due home for another two hours. Even better, he locked his phone in the car. He wandered, stumbled really, onto the sidewalk. Maybe he could get a drink somewhere.

Black Panther #1 (Marvel)

Ta-Nehisi Coates (W) Daniel Acuna (A)

New #1!!!! While I understand the reasoning for the new number one, I do get really frustrated when I try to explain to new readers where to start. “No, there are two volume ones, yeah, you have to make sure you’re reading the right one”. It’s not confusing to me, but to someone who doesn’t know what’s up. Is this any better than starting at issue 300?

Justice League: No Justice #3 (of 4) (DC)

Scott Snyder/Joshua Williamson/James Tynion IV(W) Riley Rossmo/ Marcos To (A)

This series is really fucking good. This has me crazy excited for all the different Justice League series that are coming out in the next couple months.

Invincible Iron Man #600 (Marvel)

Brian Michael Bendis (W) Stefano Caselli/Alex Maleev (A)

Can I just say, this series has a lot of good moments, but I’m kinda glad it’s ending. It’s Bendis’ last Marvel work for a while, which is kinda sad, but I feel like this series was really spinning its wheels the last couple arcs. Interested to see how it goes out.

Legion #5 (of 5) (Marvel)

Peter Milligan (W) Wilfredo Torres (A)

This series is goofy. Not the best Legion series, but definitely not bad. Hopefully Marvel does more with this character now that the show is a hit.

The Silencer #5 (DC)

Dan Abnett (W) Victor Bogfanovic (A)

This series continues to have some of the most fun, visceral action sequences of any comic on the shelves today. 90’s comic idea, done with modern style. Dig it.

Detective Comics #981 (DC)

James Tynion IV (W) Raul Fernandez/Alvaro Martinez (A)

I am really sad that this book is ending. This last arc has been incredible. I am sad to say that once this arc is done, I’m not going to read it. If you are, peep those Mark Brooks variant covers. DAAAAAMN

Wonder Woman #47 (DC)

James Robinson (W) Stephen Segovia (A)

That issue did not disappoint. Two badass ladies are about to fight because of some Dark God fuckery. I’m 100% in.

X-O Manowar #15 (Valiant)

Matt Kindt (W) Trevor Hairsine (A)

The last issue of this book had maybe one of my favorite sequences of the entire series. It’s an astoundingly gorgeous story. That’s why I love these guys.

Moon Knight #195 (Marvel)

Max Bemis (W) Paul Davidson (A)

The last issue surprised me. That seems to be a running theme in this new series. Each issue brings in some aspects that I really like and some that I could never have seen coming. This upcoming arc is going to be a great one, I’m calling it now.

Old Man Logan #40 (Marvel)

Ed Brisson (W) Ibraim Roberson (A)

HOLY HELL. I thought this book reached its peak a while ago, but every arc keeps topping the last one.

Doctor Strange #390 (Marvel)

Donny Cates (W) Calvin Irving (A)

New arc after all that Damnation hullabaloo. It’s as if they wanted to win my heart. This issue the Doc teams up with the Webhead.

The Terrifics #4 (DC)

Jeff Lemire (W) Evan Shaner (A)

Can I tell you how fucking excited I am for Doc Shaner doing interiors in this issue. His art is incredible. I mean, I want him on a Captain Marvel (Shazam, whatever you call him) series ASAP, but this will do for now.

Days of Hate #5 (of 12) (Image)

Ales Kot (W) Danijel Zezelj (A)

Man, This book makes me sad.

Skyward #2 (Image)

Joe Henderson (W) Lee Garbett (A)

Okay, I forgot to tell you about this one. Fucking sue me. I made a horrible mistake. Sometimes things don’t really grab you until you’re in the shop and see it in person. You should try it.

The Further Adventures of Nick Wilson #5 (of 5?) (Image)

Marc Andreyko/Eddie Gorodetsky (W) Steve Sadowski (A)

WHAT? OH NO! I THOUGHT THIS WAS GOING TO LAST LONGER! I’M SAD NOW. FUCK THIS BOOK WAS GOOD.

Black Hammer: Age of Doom #2 (Dark Horse)

Jeff Lemire (W) Dean Ormston (A)

I feel like Lemire took a little time off this book so he could come back and knock this shit out of the park. This book is on a role already, any issues I had with it before are kaput.

Manifest Destiny #35 (Image)

Chris Dingess (W) Matthew Roberts (A)

This arc has had some hang ups, but all and all, I think this is a solid arc and I am really excited to see what’s next for the expedition.

Deadly Class #34 (Image)

Rick Remender (W) Wes Craig (A)

You think that I’m not putting this at the top of the list the week after they reveal that kickass trailer for the SYFY show? You better fucking believe it.

The presence of life in the city felt almost overwhelming during these hottest months. Blood boiling, passions burning, everyone was a match struck against the jet black asphalt. Voices filtered through open windows, children screamed and laughed and cried. A woman lost in thought walked past Harris. He couldn’t help but smell the perfume that trailed behind like spiderwebs. An old couple, maybe just friends, sat across from each other in a cafe, they shared time with each other. Every once in a while a breeze would blow through the alleyways and narrow streets, washing away all the nonsense that hung in the air. He could almost hear the collective sigh from the people around him, as if everyone stopped for just a second to enjoy the moment before the street reignited.
