Long rumored to be in talks with Google, Twitch.tv has reached an agreement with amazon.com to be purchased.

Emmet Scheer, CEO of Twitch, said,  “We chose Amazon because they believe in our community, they share our values and long-term vision, and they want to help us get there faster. We’re keeping most everything the same: our office, our employees, our brand, and most importantly our independence. But with Amazon’s support we’ll have the resources to bring you an even better Twitch.”

Amazon has previously waded into the gaming world with the opening of Amazon Game Studios. The acquisition seems to fit nicely within that space and also the continued expansion of their streaming offerings for Amazon Prime.

Aside from the audience, Amazon offers a prime platform for the company to expand and build with Amazon Web Services as well as original content Amazon Game Studios.

We’ll be interested to see how the company fares under the Amazon umbrella.
