So is it Microcraft or Minesoft now?
On Monday morning, Microsoft announced that it will be acquiring Mojang, the creators of Minecraft, for $2.5 billion. 
Since being released on PC in 2009, the game has grown to Android, iOS, Xbox, and PlayStation. Players have been understandably concerned that Microsoft may choose to end development on other platforms, but in a statement from Phil Spencer, they pledged to continue development across all its existing platforms, even the clearly inferior ones. Okay, maybe not that last part.
Perhaps the most surprising news from this announcement came from Mojang’s statement, which revealed that Minecraft creators Notch, Carl, and Jakob would be leaving the company instead of continuing on under Microsoft. In an entry on his personal site, Notch explained that he prefers being a coder, not a CEO, and will most likely continue working on small projects for fun. Of course, working on personal projects is a lot easier when you’ve got a boatload of cash to back you up.
At this time, we have not received any confirmation that Microsoft is considering changing the name of its home city, Redmond, to Redstone.
Yo dawg, Sony put the PS4 on your tablet so you can game while you game
Sony recently unveiled the Xperia Z3, Z3 Compact, and Z3 Tablet Compact, all of which support PS4 Remote Play. Though the devices have touchscreens, they don’t appear to support any on-screen controls, so to play, you have to mount the device on a harness that attaches to your PS4 controller. The devices only support remote gameplay over your home network, so it’s more meant to be used when you don’t feel like pausing the game to go to the bathroom, rather than on your lunch break at work. All the devices are waterproof and dustproof, so at least you don’t have to worry about dropping it in the toilet!
This explains why Apple’s pre-order site went down…
Apple finally released solid pre-order numbers for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, revealing that they received over 4 million pre-orders in the first 24 hours the phone was available. 
The lucky ones who pre-ordered in the middle of the night will have theirs by the 19th, while others are seeing quoted ship dates in early to mid-October. I personally ordered one through Verizon and it should get here by October 7th, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed for sooner. Of course, you can always try your luck at a retail store, but be prepared to wait in line, or slum it with a 16GB model if they don’t have the one you want. In case you’re wondering how this compares to previous years, the last numbers Apple released were for the iPhone 5, which had 2 million preorders in 24 hours. Some are reporting that carriers are offing them early upgrades or trade-in deals, which could be behind the larger pre-order numbers.

According to a rumors circulating on Reddit, Comcast has been contacting users who are surfing the web with the Tor browser, demanding they discontinue use of the browser or risk having their internet service cancelled. For those of you who just stick to plain ‘ol Chrome or Firefox, Tor is a secure web browser that anonymizes and conceals your web traffic by sending your encrypted packets randomly from Tor node to Tor node, so that no one can trace where the data came from, where it’s going, or what’s in it. It’s kinda like driving a crazy, twisty route to try and lose someone tailing your car. Although Tor’s stated mission is to prevent illegal wiretapping by the NSA or other agencies, it’s been adopted by some not so savory individuals to conceal illegal activities on the internet. The fact that Comcast can detect who’s using Tor suggests to some that Comcast is attempting to snoop on customer’s web browsing. Comcast has released a statement saying that these reports are “not accurate”, but has not clarified further. Luckily, I use Time Warner, which…is being bought by Comcast. Well, looks like no one is safe!
