Gravity has taken in the #1 Spot at the Box Office this weekend. The film brought in $55.5mil dollars, which makes it the biggest film opening of an October release, of all time! This also makes it a career high for both stars, Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. Bullock’s previous best was this year’s The Heat with an opening of $39.1 mil; and Clooney’s, Batman and Robin, opened at $42.8mil. Director, Alfonso Cuaron, has had a higher opening weekend with Harry Potter: The Prisoner of Azkaban; but this is still a major win for him!

The rest of this week’s contenders didn’t even come close to Gravity, with Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 taking in $21.5mil for the #2 spot. The weekend rounded out with indie films, Pulling Strings and Enough Said at the bottom of the Top Ten.

Next week, Machete Kills goes up against Tom Hanks‘s, Captain Phillips. Though, I’d love Machete to take the top spot for Robert Rodriguez, I’m pretty sure that Gravity will remain the leader. Stay Tuned next week and find out!
