It really can’t come as much surprise that Zero Dark Thirty took the Top Spot at this weekend’s Box Office. The last Kathryn Bigelow movie, Hurt Locker, took the Best Picture Oscar at 2010’s Academy Awards. ZDT was just nominated for the same category, and I’m sure audiences wanted to see what the fuss was all about since the theatre had a wide release this weekend at 2,900 theatres.

Not close to it as far as money, but shockingly so, came the #2 spot being grabbed by, A Haunted House. The movie looked absolutely horrible, and somehow beat out Gangster Squad’s $16mil, landing the Sean Penn movie at #3. The rest of the Top Ten was rounded out by Lincoln, The Hobbit, and Silver Linings Playbook pulling in the rear.

Next week, should be interesting to see with the Mark Wahlberg/Russel Crowe action film, Broken City premiering alongside the Arnold Schwarzenegger film return, The Last Stand. I personally want to see The Last Stand because it looks ridiculous and I love most of Arnie’s films. Stay tuned next week to see who takes the top spot!
