We all knew that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker would be dominated the Box Office this weekend. The ‘end’ of the Skywalker Saga and the 9th film in the trilogies was going to be scoring a lot of creds with consumers, but just how much did it take in? The movie was able to debut in America with $175 million and Worldwide has already grossed another $198 million. While those are huge numbers, they don’t stack up against the previous two entries in the trilogy. The Force Awakens opened to $248 million and The Last Jedi saw a domestic opening of $220 million. We’ll just see if TROS can make up the dollars on the Holiday weekend.

The rest of the Top Ten stayed about the same with the exception of a couple of new entries that didn’t really do much to shakes things up. Cats opened in the 4th position to an abysmal $6.5 million. Audiences were super creeped out between the mix of cgi and live action and the Box Office numbers reflected that as such. The 6th spot went to newcomer, Bombshell, which only took in $5 million. The rest of the Top Ten you can see below.

  • 1. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker $175,500,000
  • 2. Jumanji: The Next Level $26,125,000
  • 3. Frozen 2 $12,300,000
  • 4. Cats $6,500,000
  • 5. Knives Out $6,125,000
  • 6. Bombshell $5,075,000
  • 7. Richard Jewell $2,565,000
  • 8. Queen & Slim $1,850,000
  • 9. Black Christmas $1,800,000
  • 10. Ford v Ferrari $1,800,000

Next weekend, expect a lot of the same. The Rise of Skywalker will take a dip but it may not be all that bad with people wanting to avoid the first weekend crowds and many families off of work due to the Holiday Break. Just how much will it rake in? Find out in the next edition of Weekend Roundup.
