Much like the death of Gwen Stacey, the downfall of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 being top at the office came fast and unexpected. On it’s second week it took a huge plummet and was surpassed by the Zak Efron and Seth Rogen comedy, Neighbors. The film brought in $51.2mil this weekend, topping the Wall Crawler, which only made $37.2mil this weekend.

To give you some perspective, Spidey opened with $92mil last weekend. This pretty much ensures a movie like Neighbors will make all of its money back and will probably garner a sequel that’s a shot-for-shot remake of The Burbs. The rest of the Box Office fared as well as they could, but their competition was too steep to really make any sort of impact.

Next weekend we shall see the return of The King of All Monsters, Godzilla, smash his way on to the big screen. I have no doubt that he’ll be #1 for at least a week before we see what happens with X-Men: Days of Futures past. The film opened up last weekend and has already had a ton of positive reviews. In the meantime, All Hail the King, for the time being.
