Ive seen the future, and it’s covered in greenery and ruled by simians who ride horses. The Box Office had to agree, as Dawn of the Planet of the Apes took in a whopping $73million on it’s opening weekend. It’s clear that Fox has a franchise on it’s hands now, and it’s going to be really interesting to see where the series goes.

The rest of the Top Ten didn’t fare as well, with Transformers coming in 2nd, with only $16.5million. That’s a low number this week, but it did cross the $200million dollar mark domestically speaking. Check out the rest of the Top Ten below.

Next week, the Apes should be able to remain in 1st place as it goes up against Planes: Fire and Rescue, The Purge: Anarchy, and Sex Tape. The latter being the only real competition it probably has.  The weekend of the 25th is the one to watch out for as Hercules and Lucy will try to take on the Simian Revolution!
