The Dawn of the Planet of the Apes finally met it’s match this week, in the form of Scarlett Johansson. The Luc Besson-directed science fiction action film took the top spot, earning $44million dollars. This is a bit of a shock given it’s horrid reviews and the fact it was facing off against a demi-God in the form of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson in his film, Hercules.

Hercules though, only pulled in $29million, which is a bit of an upset for MGM and Paramount. The rest of the Top Ten also fared pretty poor compared to Lucy, except for The Purge: Anarchy, which brought in another $9.9million. This is pretty great considering it’s $9million dollar budget. Check out the others below.

I suppose that Luc Besson can be happy that he has a #1 Box Office movie for the first time ever, though it will be short-lived with Guardians of the Galaxy opening next weekend. I’m more than positive that GOTG will take the top spot, the real question is what will happen when it faces the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in the second week of August.
