Looks like the competition received a Shell Shock in the form of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles this weekend. Opening up to horrible reviews and a ton of money, the film brought in over $65million . Pretty solid numbers for a movie that was projected to only pull about $41million. I believe that money all came in the form of Gen X-ers who wanted to either: Hate Michael Bay and for some reason give him money on opening weekend and kids who love the Nickelodeon cartoon. There was a few people like yours truly who expected the film to be great and got a decent, but ultimately, unfulfilling reboot. You can read my review on the film HERE.

The rest of the Box Office followed as expected with Guardians of the Galaxy taking the 2nd position. Well, I can’t say entirely expected, as I thought Guardians would have stayed on top. The rest of the Box Office really didn’t have much of a chance as you can see below.

1. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles $65 million

2. Guardians of the Galaxy $41.5 million

3. Into the Storm $18 million

4. The Hundred-Foot Journey $11.1 million

5. Lucy $9.3 million

6. Step Up All In $6.6 million

7. Hercules $5.7 million

8. Get on Up $5 million

9. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes $4.4 million

10. Planes: Fire and Rescue $2.4 million

Next week, should be pretty interesting as we have a ton of movies coming out. Starting this upcoming Wednesday is the comedy, Let’s Be Cops. Followed by Friday releases for: The Giver, Expendables 3, and a couple of limited releases with Frank and Life After Beth. My money is on either Turtles or Guardians taking the top spot as the leaked version of The Expendables didn’t do it any favors.
