The most popular trend today in the comic book movie world is a shared universe/crossover. Marvel Studios and Disney are doing the best job so far and now Fox wants in on that action. First they made the genius decision of hiring Mark Millar (Kick Ass, Jupiter’s Legacy) to oversee the entire operation and now according to THR Fox has signed X-Men: Days of Future Past scribe/producer, Simon Kinberg to a three-year deal that will task him with building a cinematic universe that will crossover all of the comic book properties that Fox owns. Kinberg was also tapped to take over the script on the Josh Trank helmed Fantastic Four reboot. Seems that Fox has a lot of faith in what Kinberg can deliver! Here’s what Kinberg had to say about the announcement:

“I have a lot of ideas on how to build those brands and do what everybody is thinking of these days: Be like Marvel. I want to be able to build stories over multiple movies.”

So Fox is going to make a lot of geeks very happy as they try to emulate what Marvel Studios is doing, fine I am totally ok with that. And with the recent announcement of X-Men: Apocalypse coming in 2016, it looks as if Fox is going full steam ahead on developing some awesome projects. The bad news is that as long as Fox continues to make “good” films and making a lot of money doing so, we may never see all of the Marvel characters come together on the big screen for a very, very long time. So those of you hoping for an Avengers/FF hanging out, you may just have to deal with a X-Men/FF team-up instead. That doesn’t sound so bad now does it Towelites? Or does it? Sound off in the comments below! If you want more insight on the topic, head here to check out Doc’s thoughts on the matter! Sorry Spidey, looks like you’ll be playing in the sandbox alone.

Stay tooned 😛
