Skin stretched and tore to fit a new frame. What was once a beast was now man again. Panting, laying in blood his body shed, but blood that was not his own, he cried. Barriston Warmley wept for the humanity that so frequently dripped through his fingers like the tears he couldn’t suppress. Growling echoed around him. It was no animal’s growl. It felt as if the air itself were moaning. Suddenly a figured donned in ancient gold and turquoise stood at his outspread hands.

Spider-Man/Deadpool #16 (Marvel)

Joshua Corin (W) Scott Koblish (A)

Man, I fucking hate these big crossovers. The regular writer for this comic isn’t even writing it. What the fuck. It’s an okay story, but it just keeps me from enjoying the story that I’ve been buying into this whole time.

America #2 (Marvel)

Gabby Rivera (W) Joe Quinones (A)

Dug the first issue, I want to see how this comic pans out before I double down though. Solid intros don’t mean nothin in the comic world.

Hawkeye #5 (Marvel)

Kelly Thompson (W) Leonardo Romero (A)

Oh snap, we got the OG private eye in the building. I loved the first arc of this series and I’m invested now. Dammit.

Green Arrow #20 (DC)

Ben Percy (W) Eleonora Carlini (A)

The itty bitty two part arc is coming to a close. I’ve said it before but this comic is an awesome example of using a character’s backstory and mission statement to tackle real life issues.

Iron Fist #2 (Marvel)

Ed Brisson (W) Mike Perkins (A)

Really good first issue. As I’ve said before, first issues, hell, even first arcs aren’t the best judge of a comic. Hopefully it can maintain the badassery.

Avengers #6 (Marvel)

Mark Waid (W) Mike Del Mundo (A)

This series is fucking awesome. It’s everything that I want from an Avengers series, plus a little extra funk. Who doesn’t like a little extra funk.

Black Cloud #1 (Image)

Jason Latour (W) Greg Hinkle (A)

Saw an ad for this pop up in the back of Loose Ends, and I was sold. This comic looks extremely promising. Lets hope I’m a good judge of these things.

Champions #7 (Marvel)

Mark Waid (W) Humberto Ramos (A)

What happens when you are heroes for money? Well, you’d probably be Heroes for Hire. You know what maybe these guys aren’t so bad? Seeing as they are punching the heroes on the cover, I may be wrong about that. Who knows.

Paper Girls #13 (Image)

Brian K. Vaughan (W) Cliff Chang (A)

I really like this comic, but I feel like the last couple issues haven’t really been doing it for me. I get that way sometimes. That’s why people don’t like being around me.

Jessica Jones #7 (Marvel)

Brian Michael Bendis (W) Michael Gaydos (A)

We got a lot of clarification in the last issue, but not a whole lot of stress relief. Why can’t things just be nice? Is that too hard?

Batman #20 (DC)

Tom King (W) David Finch (A)

This series fucking rocks. Seriously, it blows me away with every issue. If Snyder had to hand it off, which is sad, he couldn’t have passed the mantle to anyone more worthy. Holy shit this book is good.

The voice was the clearest he had ever beheld, yet he could not see the creatures face.

“I gave them a gift. Unburdened hunt. Primal instincts that of a wolf. It was pure, it was a kingly honor.

To take the shape of a wolf and lead. It was the thing of legends. Power gives way to ego, ego to pride. Soon they laid with brother and sister. They perverted my gift for fear it would be shared among their people. Power means nothing if all are acquainted with its grace. The wolf became a monster, the creature of nightmares.”

Barriston choked on his own breath. His whole body shaking in pain.

“I turned it into a disease to teach them what they could not learn on their own. It spread like fire, the gifted now retreat into the wilderness. The kings now worse than the peasants they were so afraid of. This is why you must suffer. This is why the line must continue. Until all have learned this lesson. You are my missionary. You are the walking hell.”

Barriston could feel the blood in his ears. He closed his eyes and upon opening them, he discovered that the figure had gone. He was alone. Alone in new ways.
