After the arrest of Detective Flass, things are not looking up for Gordon and the Gotham City Police Department. With Flass’s connections with the Commissioner, Gordon’s activities are being looked through a microscope. But this new case of victims being frightened to death gives Gordon a breath of fresh air. Bullock goes undercover in a group where phobias are being treated. The Penguin faces Maroni with his little secret, and Fish sails away from Gotham hoping to return again and claim what is hers.
The Good
- What do you fear? Bullock reveals what he is afraid of the most; to die alone in a dark alley. He befriends a woman, Scottie Mullens, who leads a group with phobias. People have gone missing from this group and Bullock is there to find out why and who?
- Edward Nygma gets suspended after the arrest of Detective Flass.
- Leslie Thompkins and Gordon get very intimate. She is definitely a better match than Barbara.
- The Penguin goes face to face with Maroni after he finds out that Penguin has been working for Falcone. Fish tipped Maroni
- Maroni stuffs Penguin in a car crusher at the junkyard. The Penguin escapes by threatening the crusher operator with bodily harm from Falcone.
- Julian Sands guest stars as Dr. Crane, a.k.a.Todd, the antagonist this week. He plays the father of the future Scarecrow, Dr. Jonathan Crane. Bullock finds out that Todd (in group therapy people don’t use real names), has been experimenting on them to extract the chemical in the adrenal gland that control our fear.
- Todd kidnaps Scottie and take her to the one place she fears the most; a swimming pool. He pushes her in, but Bullock gets to her in time, but Todd along with his son Jonathan, escape.
- Nygma uses unorthodox tactics to get his job back. It‘s pretty comical.
- Fish’s safe passage out of Gotham gets interrupted an army of militant soldiers.
The Bad
- Again Penguin escapes from death, even from being crushed in a crusher. How many lives does he have?
- Edward Nygma’s side story is still just an afterthought.
- Is Barbara ever coming back?
- Penguin has only one last place to go for sanctuary, and that is Falcone. Will Falcone welcome him back?
This two part episode concludes next week where Gordon is on the hunt for Dr. Crane. Julian Sands plays the psychotic psychotherapist brilliantly. Penguin is running out of places to hide and Fish is having trouble leaving the city. No one ever said living in Gotham is a cake walk.
