This is the last episode of 2014, and it is a big one. Nathan, Duke, and Audrey are all trying to find Mara, who escaped from Duke in the previous episode. Duke’s new trouble upgrade has claimed the newest victims this week, and Dwight and Audrey are trying to help the one of the new Troubled from killing innocent people. Plus Dr. Charlotte Cross is the only person who can shed light as to what is happening to Audrey and Mara.
The Good
- Cross is not the mother of Audrey, but really the mother of Mara. Audrey is all the goodness that Mara once had, but was destroyed when Mara’s father died. Charlotte told them that Mara and William used the power of the Void to create the Troubles and inflict people the pain and torment she had to endure with losing her father.
- Charlotte claims she is over eleven hundred years old and Mara is a little over five hundred. She wanted to teach Mara a lesson by trapping her in the Barn and reincarnating her into various personalities, like Lucy, Veronica, and Audrey, in which she can help save the people she infected the Troubles upon.
- Mara is correct in saying that Audrey is just a husk, because her sickness is a result of having herself being split in two when Duke released a trouble onto Mara. Charlotte is correct to say that Audrey and Mara must merge to save them both.
- When Duke released a Trouble at the Gull, two people are infected. One is cursed to having a spontaneous combustion Trouble where the woman killed her boyfriend and disintegrated a wooden railing at the restaurant. Another person is infected with a trapping Trouble where people get trapped in enclosed places. Audrey and Dwight track down the trapped Trouble victim where his daughter is trapped on a boat with nets and cables are sealing her and her classmates inside and sinking fast. Audrey is able to talk him down and free the kids inside the boat. But the combustion Troubled woman is still out there.
- Dave gets a vision of a man in the woods holding a rock. He finds out that his vision is located nearby and Vince and Dave take a trip to where Dave saw the man. He notices a word carved on a large stone…..CROATOAN, this is just carved recently.
- Duke makes a deal with Mara that he will take her a thinny if he can go with her and jump in himself because he doesn’t want anybody to get hurt by him anymore, she agrees.
- Just when Mara and Duke escape on a seaplane to the thinny, Duke encounters Nathan and tries to talk to Duke. He tells Nathan his plan to sacrifice himself in the Void to save Haven, but Nathan says there is another way, Charlotte can merge Mara and Audrey and Haven is saved. While they are talking Charlotte and Audrey finds Mara.
- A little mother/daughter session is underway between Charlotte and Mara. Charlotte convinces Mara let her merge with Audrey. One person comes out alive, it is Audrey and Nathan elated. It comes with a price. Duke erupts and every Trouble that he has kept inside spray out and into Haven. But these are not your ordinary Troubles, these are Mara’s new and improved Troubles that are more nastier and malicious than ever.
- A wall of dense fog come rolling down over the mountains and stops at the border of Haven. Dwight tries to drive through it, only to be turned back around into Haven.
The Bad
- Even though the mystery of Charlotte is revealed, I still don’t know where she comes from. She says where she is from is more advanced from ours. She compared our world to hers like an electron microscope to a simple one with less power. That’s not condescending, is it.
- The mystery of Croatoan is baffling. The storyline is lingering too much. I don’t know if it still has a connection to Haven.
- I miss Mara, she was fun to watch.
It’s a good episode with a lot of revealing answers to the questions I have been asking myself for a couple of episodes. But there are still a few unanswered questions left in my query. What is that mist that rolled in at the end of the episode? Does Charlotte come fro? She didn’t say exactly where, but she claims it is highly advanced. Is Audrey really back, now that Mara is gone? Does she remember all that has happened to her? We will find out when it returns in January. One word……Shatner!!!! Need I say more!
