The legend of the Tooth Fairy is explained further in this creepy episode.  Children are being terrorized and their lives are threatened by an invisible force that only they can see.  The age old adage that monsters hide in the closets and under the bed is taken literally in the town of Sleepy Hollow.  On a lighter note, Ichabod is starting to prepare for the citizens exam and Ms. Corinth is helping him as well.  Not to mention their relationship is teetering on the edge of the friendship zone and is almost turning into a courting ritual for Ichabod.  It means they’re getting their groove on.  Abbie is conflicted as to whether to tell Jenny about their estrange father and his new family.  With their mother gone, they only have each other and bringing their father into their lives can only complicate things.

Joe calls Abbie about a little girl, Tessa that is in a coma in the hospital.  He says that her big sister Saffron saw a hideous monster attack Tessa in the middle of the night.  Logically her parents dismiss her story about a monster but is still worried that Tessa might not make it.  Ichabod wants to keep this case pretty close to the chest.  He doesn’t want to create a panic in the schools or in town.  Jenny and Ichabod visit Saffron and Tessa’s home to find more clues about the creature.  Their dad is not much help and Saffron is upset and sad that her parents don’t believe her.  Ichabod asks Saffron to draw what it is she saw.  The image that she drew gave Ichabod shills.  Back at the Archives, Ichabod tells Jenny a time when Betsy Ross’s niece was stricken by the same affliction just like Tessa.  He mentions Paul Revere as the town’s dentist and silversmith.  During that specific time the children were dying after they lost their teeth.  Unfortunately, he was not allowed to witness Revere’s work but after he left Betsy’s niece made a full recovery.  It was known during that time that Revere fought against the forces of evil with supernatural skills and his dentistry bag.

Ichabod tells a legend of the Abryzou, and Assyrian demon that eats children’s soul through an open wound in the mouth.  When a child loses a tooth that is when the Abryzou would strike.  Hence forth that is where the origin of the Tooth Fairy is created.  The process of this harvest would take forty eight hours to complete.  They have thirty six hours left to save Tessa.  The Abryzou are nocturnal, territorial and they often steal their victim’s teeth as trophies.  Their weakness is silver.  Ichabod remembers Revere would give Betsy’s niece a silver coin for protection.  He thinks that is why parents would put a silver dollar under their child’s bed, for protection from the demon.  To find this demon they need to locate a child with a loose tooth.  It is rather comical watching Ichabod talk to a bunch of kids with his archaic dialect and speech, but it works they find a child Gregory who is almost ready to lose a tooth.  He is also frightened because he keeps seeing the Abryzou waiting for him at night.  Jenny gives Gregory a silver dollar for protection.  Ichabod uses his historical knowledge and witty charm to convince a national museum attendee to lend him Revere’s dentistry bag.  Jenny, Abbie and Ichabod figure that silver nitrate can draw out the Abryzou and kill it.  They stake out Gregory’s house waiting for the demon to show.  Abbie uses this time to tell Jenny what she found out about dad.  To her surprise she knows all about him several years ago and doesn’t really care about it.  She considers him a deadbeat and a loser for leaving them behind and that we are doing just fine without him.

The Abryzou appears at Gregory’s house.  Abbie and Jenny are having a difficult time finding it because only kids can see it.  So they use water to spray it, but Abbie gets seriously injured.  They fail to kill it.  More pressing matters, Abbie is at the hospital trying to recover.  Saffron visits Abbie in her room with Jenny there.  She feels responsible for her sister’s situation.  Because she is her big sister she feels she needs to protect her little sister.  Jenny tries to reassure her that she is a great big sister she is doing everything she can to be there for her.  Pandora visits Abbie when everyone is gone.  Her abusive relationship with her father gives Pandora ammunition to torment and verbally harass Abbie and that she can’t do anything to save those two little girls, Tessa and Saffron.

Ichabod realizes that the tools in Revere’s bag combines into a weapon that can kill the Abryzou.  Saffron lures the Abryzou to her using a tooth that Pandora strangely gave to her at the hospital.  Jenny and Ichabod fights the monster with silver nitrate from Revere’s dentist weapon.  It is difficult but they were able to kill it.  Back at the hospital, Tessa is getting better now that the demon is dead.

Jenny gets more information about the missing Shard of Anubis and who the mystery woman who took it and her client.  Sophie Foster is the woman and Atticus Nevins is the buyer.  Joe knows Atticus through his dad because they had dealings in the past.

Next week:  An old enemy of Ichabod’s resurface to wreak havoc in Sleepy Hollow.
