This episode is a bit of a stretch when it comes to believability. Henry has come up with a plan by using a cursed roman silver coin; he is able to turn any ordinary person into a criminal. He believes that everybody has a dark side, and with the roman coin it can draw out the dark thoughts or desires from anybody. To test his theory, he placed the coin at the Sleepy Hollow Saving where a teller accidentally touched it. All of a sudden her behavior started to change and she robbed the bank. Abby and Ichabod got the call about the bank robbery; and they tried to stop the teller from doing anymore harm to her and anybody else. Just when Abby starts to make some progress, the teller is shot and killed by Chief Reyes. When Abby and Ichabod were scanning through the bank security cameras, Ichabod recognizes the coin that the teller is holding.
He recalls back when he was working for Washington that their was a set of coins he was charged to obtain from a group of counterfeiters. These coins were supposed to circulate within the economy to turn patriots into traitors. One of them was found by Benedict Arnold, who Ichabod now believes it was the cursed coin that put treachery and deceit into the mind of Benedict. All together their were thirty pieces of roman silver coins in the set. Abby just realized that that was the exact number of silver coins which was paid to Judas when he betrayed Jesus Christ. Jenny mentioned to them that she knew a guy who deals with rare objects and that he might be helpful in finding the coin and how to contain it without affecting them. Unfortunately, Jenny discovered some upsetting news about their mother and Chief Reyes. She found out that Chief Reyes help put their mother in the Tarrytown Psychiatric Building. Though Abby was surprised by this she defended Chief Reyes action. That didn’t sit well with Jenny.
Meantime, Katrina was trying to get any information about Henry’s and the Horseman’s plan. She can hear them talking and arguing about how to release Moloch from Purgatory. Her name came up in the conversation. Henry believes it is futile plan to try to persuade her in siding with Abraham (Horseman of Death), but Abraham still believes it will work. Henry notices that she is listening, he approaches her and warns her not to take confidence in Abraham’s plan, and it will kill her in the end. Katrina then tries to connect with Henry by mentioning his choice to stay in the house where he was born and raised. For a minute, he paused and thought about it, then regained his composure.
Abby and Ichabod is able to find the rare collector, Holly. He agrees to help them in exchange for the coin when it is all over, they agree. While searching for the rare coin, they find out that Henry successfully placed it in Jenny’s hand without her knowing..
With her resentment towards Chief Reyes, and with the power of the cursed coin, Jenny sets out to exact revenge on Reyes. Abby and Ichabod get to her in time to stop her from making the biggest mistake of her life.
Ichabod visits Irving at the Tarrytown Psychiatric Building, and warns him not to trust Henry. He then tells Irving about Henry being his lost son and The Horseman of War. It’s a lot to take in for Irving, and he reacts to this news with some disbelief.
Henry’s moves and strategies start to form and take shape. He is two steps ahead of the dynamic duo and it will only get worse for them. This episode is not as strong as the last two, but it is still enjoyable to watch. There are a couple of funny moments where Ichabod mentions a few inaccuracies with our American historical facts. For example, he takes humor into seeing the picture of Paul Revere on a Samuel Adams beer bottle, and that Samuel Adams was not a minuteman, but Paul Revere was. I learn something everyday. Whether it is true or not, it is rather comical. They are an odd couple, but I love them. They work well together. Next episode should be an interesting one; you’ll have read my recap next week.
