With the announcement of D.B. Weiss and David Benioff jumping from Game of Thrones to a new Star Wars film, it’s just as exciting to hear that the galaxy from far, far away is going to be expanding on it’s television prospects as well. Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that there were a few Star Wars shows in the work for the upcoming streaming app due out in 2019.

“We are developing not just one, but a few Star Wars series specifically for the Disney direct-to-consumer app. We’ve mentioned that and we are close to being able to reveal at least one of the entities that is developing that for us. Because the deal isn’t completely closed, we can’t be specific about that. I think you’ll find the level of talent… on the television front will be rather significant as well.”

We couldn’t be more excited about this idea and I personally hope that Dave Filoni (Clone Wars, Rebels) makes the jump from animation to a live-action series. There’s no shortage of great material to mine from including the Star Wars underground; which could have multiple shows on its own. Stay Tooned here to DFAT as more Star Wars news hits!
