As a long time Spider-Man fan, I’m not really sure how to take this news. I think that Tom Hardy is a fantastic actor, don’t get me wrong; but I would never in a million years cast him to play the role of Venom in a Spider-Man spinoff film.
The movie is being helmed by Zombieland director, Ruben Fleischer, and being produced by the worst movie studio of all-time, Sony. I have the distinct feeling that an actor of Hardy’s caliber is going to spend more time out of the suit than in it; unless he’s as passionate about the project as Ryan Reynolds was for Deadpool.
Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner are writing the script, where Hardy is confirmed to be playing Eddie Brock. This makes no complete sense with Spider-Man: Homecoming still a couple months away. This just seems like another huge Sony mis-step; but I’ll wait til the trailer drops.
What do you think of this casting? Sound off in the comments.
