I got a chance to see the final Hunger Games film, and honestly, I wasn’t all that impressed. I get that it’s still #1, as it’s the end of a franchise; but it’s not that great of a film and I can’t wait for Star Wars to swoop in and destroy the box office for months to come. In the meantime, Katniss and friends took in $18.6million in the #1 position.

More exciting than that though, was the fact that Krampus brought in $16million. The Michael Dougherty-directed follow up to Trick ‘R Treat exceeded expectations and came in at #2 this past weekend. It’s good to know that horror is still alive and strong, even at Christmas time. Especially an original IP, which is so rare these days. The rest of the Top Ten is below.

1. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2 $18.6 million

2. Krampus $16 million

3. Creed $15.5 million

4. The Good Dinosaur $15.5 million

5. SPECTRE $5.4 million

6. The Night Before $4.9 million

7. The Peanuts Movie $3.5 million

8. Spotlight $2.9 million

9. Brooklyn $2.4 million

10. Secret in Their Eyes $2 million

Next weekend, don’t expect any real shakeup to the numbers above. Everything will wane as far as earnings go, but until December 17th and the arrival of The Force Awakens; this is pretty much the status quo. Maybe we’ll get a surprise and Krampus will overtake Katniss. If so, you’ll read about it in the next edition of Weekend Roundup!
