What a way to end the Summer of 2013. It has already been a pretty big letdown compared to last year, and having One Direction: This is Us take the top spot this weekend, is just the nail in the coffin. The film brought in $17mil, pushing The Butler off the top spot.
Title | Weekend | Total | |
1. | One Direction: This Is Us | $17,000,000 | $17 |
2. | Lee Daniels’ The Butler | $14,742,000 | $74 |
3. | We’re The Millers | $12,610,000 | $109.5 |
4. | Planes | $7,756,000 | $70.8 |
5. | Instructions Not Included | $7,500,000 | $7.5 |
6. | Elysium | $6,300,000 | $78.4 |
7. | The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones | $5,200,000 | $22.6 |
8. | The World’s End | $4,759,000 | $16.56 |
9. | Getaway | $4,505,000 | $4.5 |
10. | Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters | $4,425,000 | $54.9 |
That was the only true competition, figuring the Ethan Hawke/Selena Gomez film, Getaway, also premiered this weekend; but only brought in $4.5mil. Let’s just hope that the Fall brings in more dough, starting with Riddick coming back to theatres this weekend.
