Phillip Seymour HoffmanTruly a horrible day for movie fans the world over. Actor Phillip Seymour Hoffman was found dead in his Manhattan apartment this afternoon. Hoffman was 46 years old. The New York Police Department found a syringe in his arm and an envelope containing what is believed to be heroin, the official said.

“It’s pretty apparent that it was an overdose,” the official said. “The syringe was in his arm.”

Hoffman had most recently played the role of Plutarch Heavensbee in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. He was set to reprise the role in the upcoming sequels this year and next. Hoffman was one of the most talented actors of this generation, and he even took home an Academy Award for his role in “Capote.”

He will be leaving behind his mother and brother, both of whom still reside in my own hometown of Rochester, NY.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
