Seems that Sony and Marc Webb realized that they might be bogging the Amazing Spider-Man sequel by adding Mary Jane Watson to the film. Today, we get the announcement that Shailene Woodley has been cut out of the upcoming film. Not only that, but she may be cut out of Amazing Spider-Man 3 entirely.
Webb had this to say:
“I made a creative decision to streamline the story and focus on Peter and Gwen and their relationship. Shailene is an incredibly talented actress and while we only shot a few scenes with Mary Jane, we all love working with her.”
Woodley is working on a possible new franchise in the Divergent series. If the film goes well, there’s a good possibility the studio may go forward with it’s sequel, Insurgent. With all that, it’s likely that Woodley will have scheduling constraints for Amazing Spider-Man 3. This is all conjecture, but this seems to be a pretty good possibility.
