SO anyone else a little underwhelmed by the way this episode turned out?? I was looking forward to Seth Gabel‘s performance as “The Count“, aka Count Vertigo, which was good but under used. The episode centered too much around Thea‘s arrest rather than the actual plot itself, which was unfortunate. If you’re introducing one of your hero’s greatest foes you should at least make it a little more exciting. I thought Gabel did a decent job, played the character over-the-top and was generally believable as a mad man. But I think he got punked out too quickly! I think for being described as one of The Hood’s most dangerous foes, The Count should not have went down in one episode. At least the show’s writers didn’t kill him off as is the usual routine! Overall not a bad episode, flowed well enough, got across the usual “don’t do drugs” theme and what not. This episode also introduced a new character, the beautiful  Janina Gavankar (True Blood) as vice cop, McKenna Hall, a familiar face from Oliver’s past, she is reported to return in later episodes. More from the island, we find out that Yao-Fei (Byron Mann) is not really part of the mercenaries on the island as he uses a technique on Oliver, when forced to fight him, that chokes him out and passes him for dead. This allows Oliver to escape the prison camp, and realize that his ally is once again on his side. I think my favorite part of this episode was the beginning, it starts with a thug running away and Green Arrow in pursuit. A simple yet convincing scene, I don’t know if its that Arrow doesn’t pay enough tribute to the actual crime-fighting aspect of a comic book adaptation, but it really worked for me. Another point of the show, the end, I enjoyed as Felicity actually came to Oliver for once and asked for his help, revealing that she has a journal (the one that Walter had her look into) that is quite similar to his, raising Oliver’s suspicions on his own book.  Looking forward to the point when Felicity joins the Arrow team, which I have been predicting since the beginning, a character like her exists in the current New 52 adaptation. Look for this in the upcoming episode “Odyssey“. See you in two weeks, Chaz will be dropping his thoughts on next week’s episode!!

Deathstroke is unmasked in the upcoming episode “Odyssey“. Here are some spoilerific photos featuring Manu Bennett (Spartacus)!

MANU BENNETT (“SPARTACUS”) GUEST STARS AS SLADE WILSON — After Oliver (Stephen Amell) is shot, he turns to a surprising person for help – Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards). Diggle (David Ramsey) is stunned when he sees Felicity walk through the front door of the lair dragging a dying Oliver behind her, and the two team up to save Oliver’s life. As Oliver (Stephen Amell) hovers between life and death, he flashes back to a seminal event on the island – a daring escape attempt with his new friend Slade Wilson (guest star Manu Bennett). Katie Cassidy, Willa Holland, Paul Blackthorne and Susanna Thompson also star. John Behring directed the episode with story by Greg Berlanti & Andrew Kreisberg and teleplay by Andrew Kreisberg and Marc Guggenheim (#114).

Next week’s episode “Betrayal” pits our hero against a dangerous criminal Cyrus Vanch who wants to run the criminal underworld of Starling City!
