The last time we saw Neil Jordan deal with vampire it was way back in 1994, where he adapted Anne Rice’s, Interview With A Vampire, into a film. The result was one of the best vampire movies ever made. I am a huge fan of Rice’s work, and Jordan was extremely faithful to the novel and pulled off a fantastic film for the vampire genre. Now, we see Jordan take on a movie called ‘Byzantium.’ The synopsis is below.
Two mysterious women seek refuge in a run-down coastal resort. Clara meets lonely Noel, who provides shelter in his deserted guesthouse, Byzantium. Schoolgirl Eleanor befriends Frank and tells him their lethal secret. They were born 200 years ago and survive on human blood. As knowledge of their secret spreads, their past catches up on them with deathly consequence.
Here’s a haunting clip from the film as well.
The film stars the haunting eyes of Saoirse Ronan (Hannah, Lovely Bones). Ronan is a fantastic actress and I’m excited to see her take on the vampire role. More than that, I’m excited to see her sexy co-star Gemma Arteton (Clash of the Titans, Prince of Persia) as an other-wordly being.
Byzantium is currently making it’s rounds at the TIFF right now. Expect announcements for an official release date soon!
Thanks to Io9 for the heads up.
