Happy May Day! Ha, the truth is that the year is nearly half over, and that’s insane to me. I heard it’s still snowing in the East! Well I guess while we wait for Climate Change to wipe us out we can read some great comics hitting shops this week! Also, this Saturday is FREE COMIC BOOK DAY so get down to your local shop and get yourself some free swag and also buy some shit to support your store. If you don’t know where said store is then you can find it using this handy dandy website right HERE. Let’s see what’s on the Top of the Stack this week!

Batman #70 (DC)

I have been collecting Batman for nearly 15 years. Does this mean that I am caught up on the current Tom King run? No, no it doesn’t. I know, I know, get on it.

Dceased #1 (DC)

Our pantheon of heroes will be challenged when a techno-virus starts turning friends and foes into flesh-eating monsters. Leave it to Injustice scribe Tom Taylor to cook up another great story that takes place outside of DC canon. Or does it? These horror homage variant covers by Yasmine Putri are effin amazing.

DC’s Year of the Villain #1 (DC)

Are you ready for a year long event featuring your favorite comic book villains? I’m more in favor of these over-arching events more than I am the consistent need to tell crossover stories. Check out this one-shot that will set the stage for the ‘Year of the Villain’! GUESS WHAT?! It costs a quarter! That’s pretty cool! Not as cool as maybe giving it away on Free Comic Book Day… I mean it’s Saturday…

Green Lantern #7 (DC)

Grant Morrison continues to amaze me and I am a big fan of this book. If there was one way to make me read about Hal Jordan, this is it.

Female Furies #4 (of 6) (DC)

My forever obsession with Kirby’s Fourth World is what compels me to pick up these series, and I love them. Just waiting for this one to end so I can read them all!

Justice League #23 (DC)

You thought the Fifth Dimension was bad, get a load of the Sixth Dimension! Scott Snyder continues his epic and I can’t wait until we enter The Year of Villain!

Fallen World #1 (of 5) (Valiant)

This Saturday go to your local comic shop and get the Valiant FCBD Special. It features two important preludes for two important upcoming stories. One that actually starts today! My boy Dan Abnett writes the latest adventure set in the far future of the Valiant Universe! Oh the other prelude is for the upcoming Tim Seely Bloodshot series, good shit.

Savage Avengers #1 (Marvel)

I ALMOIST FORGOT THIS ONE! This is one crazy team-up and I am here because I heard that Conan’s sword becomes “Vemonized”?! Ok!!!! Oh, and the Mike Deodato variant cover you see above.

Honorable Mentions (aka outside my budget)

Paper Girls #28 (Image)

The end is nigh for Brian K. Vaughan’s throwback, time-travel comic. This is the final arc and I am just jumping back on this title. I have a few books to track down before I read it.

Beneath The Dark Crystal #9 (of 12) (Boom! Studios)

I am a big supporter of this franchise and I am eagerly anticipating the upcoming Netflix show. Boom! is on their second series in this world and I hope that they continue for years to come.

Black Hammer ’45 #3 (Dark Horse Comics)

I’ll follow Jeff Lemire anywhere. His writing has influenced my geekdom for the past 15 years and I can’t wait to see his stories brought to life. For now we can continue to watch the world of Black Hammer grow. I am looking forward to the upcoming crossover with DC.

Young Justice #5 (DC)

I’m a sucker for this team, whatever incarnation. I will probably go back and get these in collected form and read them then, for now I will just enjoy the TV show.
