“Dragons and Titans” – A Game for the Casual MOBA Player
Dragons and Titans, a game by Wyrmbyte is a Free-to-play Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) that is currently on Steam. The gameplay allows you to ride a selection of dragons and use a selection of weapons that all have different powers and abilities. What I found particularly refreshing about this game was how accessible it was for someone who has not spent hours playing some of the more heavy hitting MOBAs like League of Legends or DOTA 2.
The game is divided into two sections: a single player mode that is a series of objectives with some narrative, and a multiplayer mode which is more of the traditional MOBA scenario. The single player mode allows you to learn the basics of combat and to fight a pretty simple AI as you complete various tasks and objectives. This also has a narrative that helps to build the world and gives some more background to the dragons and characters.
In the multiplayer it is a 5v5 MOBA battle in which the objective is to free your Titan which is locked up in the enemy base. You are able to accomplish this by destroying the opposing team’s defenses, mobs, and the enemy dragons which in turn nets you experience and allows you to level up your abilities. This is where the game shines as they have simplified the formula from the other games mentioned above. There is really only one lane and this allows the battles to be simple. The game then becomes about sticking together and working as a team. Some maps allow you to create your own lane, but there are no mobs to get experience and you have to rely on the enemy players or destroying towers to gain experience.
There are a few things missing from this game compared to longer established games, like buying equipment. Also the ability to use spells and have runes are difficult at best to get setup, and impact seems minimal.
Overall this is a great game to get a basic understanding of the MOBA genre. I would highly recommend playing this game as a startup to some of the more complicated and popular games in the genre. Make sure you check out the STEAM site or Facebook page for your chance to play!
