Since I can remember I have been listening to The Violent Femmes. They were first forced on me by my cousin and my sister and I quickly fell in love with their dark, yet sometimes upbeat, twisted and morbid music. While everyone LOVES their self titled album, with their big hit Blister in the Sun along with their other most popular songs, no one really knows their best album (in my opinion) Hallowed Ground.

Hallowed Ground was my first taste of The Violent Femmes, so it holds a special place in my heart. But having heard the rest of their albums, to me none compare to this one. It is so unbelievably dark and morbid, the music is amazing, lyrics violent-femmes_hallowed-groundreally sink in and make you think and the songs themselves just implant themselves into your head, make a home and pop up every once in a great while so that you find yourself singing them out of the blue, for no reason, VERY loud!

There is not one bad song on this album, NOT ONE! So I urge you to broaden your horizons, extend yourself past the Blister in the Sun type hits and listen to the album that was never even played on radio stations (that I’ve heard anyways), that will burrow its way into your heart and live there for the rest of your days. If you don’t feel like listening to the whole album, at least listen to two songs, Hallowed Ground and Never Tell. You will thank me for this!
