The American version of Stieg Larson’sThe Girl with the Dragon Tattoo‘ was a great movie in my opnioon. I’ve always loved David Fincher as a director, and actors Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara played their characters perfectly. The Trent Reznor soundtrack was great, the story kept me enthralled the entire time; and afterwards I looked forward to what would come next to Salander and Blomkvist.  Looks like I will be waiting a long time.  EW reports that the original scribe of the remake, Steven  Zaillion, is working on the script for ‘The Girl Who Played With Fire’, but is not close to being finished. Production can not begin until he is done. Currently, Craig and Mara are set to reprise their roles, but no word on whether Fincher will continue on as director.

The main problem with this whole thing, is that a) these are remakes of the Swedish versions that there was an OK fan base for. b) the longer we wait to see the sequel, to a movie that didn’t do amazing at the box office, the less people will care.  The smart thing would have been the screenwriter to keep working on the scripts throughout this whole time. Or, just have them all written at once so they could pull a Peter Jackson, and just shoot the movies back-to-back-to-back. But what do I know?

The Girl Who Played With Fire has a “we have no idea” release date sometime past 2013, directed by someone who makes movies.

Thanks to CBSNews for the heads up.
