Just over this past weekend the new show Gotham from Fox and Warner Bros/DC Comics cast Ben McKenzie as its main character, Jim Gordon. Well yesterday we got news that four more roles had been filled, two VERY familiar characters and one not mildly so, and the other not so much. First up we have Erin Richards (Being Human) as Barbara Kean, the love interest and fiancee of Jim Gordon, and Zabryna Guevara (Burn Notice) will play Gordon’s boss, Captain Essen. The big casting news is that the show has added Alfred Pennyworth, to be played by Camelot‘s Sean Pertwee, and Oswald Cobblepot aka the Penguin! Cobblepot will be played by Robin Lord Taylor (The Walking Dead) who is described as a character with the brains of a chess grandmaster and the morals of a jackal, Oswald Cobblepot is a low-level psychopath (for gangster Fish Mooney) who hides his sadistic lust for power behind an exquisitely polite demeanor. It is interesting that the part of Alfred has been cast, but it may be only for the Pilot episode, but I am really wondering how much young Bruce Wayne will actually play in this gritty show.

UPDATE: Donal Logue (Blade) who was originally speculated as being Gordon, but we geeks knew better than that, has now been officially cast as Harvey Bullock. Here is the official description for Bullock’s character in Gotham: Jim Gordon’s partner and mentor, the rough-around-the-edges Detective Harvey Bullock plays loose with police procedure, but he gets results … and he does it with old-school, forceful panache.
