This is the season finale of a very good series.  It definitely raises the level of excitement and sophistication for a science fiction drama series.  Hobb has taken the Conscious Synths into his lab and plans to manipulate their programming for his own dream.  The Hawkins plans to help Leo and his family to break free of Hobb.  Peter risks his career to help the Hawkins as well to get answers about Karen and her secret.

  • Leo, Mia, Miska, Fred, and Max are strapped down on operating tables for Hobb to reach into their minds to retrieve the Life Program for Conscious Synths.
  • Leo tells the others to link their minds and activate the program to help Max. Something is wrong, they realize that they need one more Conscious Synth to activate the program, Karen.
  • The “We are People” movement march is beginning to grow in London.
  • The police seize all of the Hawkins electronic equipment from their homes.
  • Laura wants to help Leo and the others escape from Hobb. Mattie and Toby volunteer to sneak out of the house and retrieve Leo’s laptop from the police van and go somewhere safe.  Laura wants to use the information on Leo’ laptop as leverage for Leo and the others release.  Peter decides to help them with their plan.  He wants answers about Karen.
  • At Hobb’s laboratory, his colleagues arrive angry with him for not destroying Fred, but he explains to them his dream: Conscious Snyths that are obedient and controllable. In a word, slavery.
  • Karen watches Hobb interact with Leo. We get to see first hand how Hobb feels about Synths and what their roles are in society.  It is not good.
  • Karen visits Leo in a holding cell. He tries to reach her humanity and help him free his family.  He seems to be getting through to her, but only time will tell.
  • When Mattie and Toby are able to retrieve Leo’s memories and proof they need, they call Laura saying that they have the evidence. Laura tells Hobb she wants a trade:  Leo and others for the laptop.  He agrees.
  • Leo and others meets up with Laura, Joe, Mattie, and Soph at a safe place to meet Leo and the others.
  • Karen is surprised that Hobb let them go, but she is informed that Fred is Lo-Jacked and soon they will be returning to Hobb again.
  • For the first time, Karen is able to see images of Leo when he was child before the accident. She sees herself happy and playful before the accident as well.
  • Laura opens up to Joe about Tom, and they start to heal their relationship.
  • Karen leaves Hobb’s facility and finds Leo. Leo decides to link up and finally retrieve the Life program, but Karen somehow prevents them from finishing.  Mia pleads for Karen to help them finish the Life Program, she gets through to her.  Max is healed but Fred allows Hobb to find them.
  • Fred makes a choice to deactivate himself to prevent Hobb from finding them.
  • Leo calls Hobb and tells him that he lost and he will never find them. Hobb tells him it doesn’t matter because he has the Life Program.  Leo tells him that he doesn’t because it is not complete and he needs Karen’s program which is the final code.
  • Leo now has the Life Code to create other Conscious Synths.
  • Niska takes the Life Code on a flash drive and hands it Laura. She tells Laura that it will be safe with her until they can learn more about it, but she lied to her. Niska gave her an empty flash drive and downloaded it to Mattie’s flashdrive and hid it in her pocket.
  • Karen walks away, but Peter catches up to her. He figures how she fooled everyone, and doesn’t care.  They walk away together in the distance.
  • Niska decides to separate herself from the group and go out on her own.
  • Mia thanks Laura for all her help
  • Leo decides to leave Fred behind, because he poses a threat to the others.

This is a great series and I am very excited that it got picked up for a second season.  What will Niska do with the Life Code?  Will Karen and Peter figure out a way to have a relationship?  What is to become of the Hawkins?  Hobb is still a threat and what will he do?  We shall see next season.
