This is the last episode before the season finale. The Hawkins become Synth sympathizers by taking in Leo, Niska, Max, Mia, and Fred. Joe is back and it gets pretty cold and awkward in the Hawkins house. Karen went rogue after her intimate encounter with Peter, and a tragedy occurs tonight.
- We know that Karen is a Conscious Synth, but it is discovered tonight that she is a replacement of David Elster’s late wife and Leo’s mother, Beatrice. She was there when Mia and the others were created, but Leo rejected her because it was too much for him to see his dead mother. She felt abandoned by the others and has been bitter against the Synths ever since.
- Karen goes to George Millican’s house to see Niska. Karen wants to die but she can’t because David put a block on self- termination in her program. She asks Niska to do it. She refuses, telling her that she is with family now. Karen tells her that humans will never accept us as equals and this program that David created for Conscious Synths will lead to more suffering. She kills George by accident when Niska tried to run. Odi is there to comfort George when he dies.
- Niska goes to the Hawkins house after she talks to Mia. Leo and Fred arrive after with Max who is badly damaged. The Hawkins and the Synths try to save Max but time is not on his side.
- Laura takes Joe back, but he is still in the dog house with her. He gets an icy welcome from Toby and Mattie, but a warm welcome from Sophie.
- Niska tells Mia about Karen who is Beatrice and tells her what she did and how her attitude towards Synths poses a danger to all of them.
- Hobbs is at the Millican house investigating the death of George. Karen meets him there and offers her help to catch the Synths. She reveals she is a Conscious Synth but knows that they are a mistake and needs to be stopped. She adds that after she helps him, she asks him to terminate her life, he agrees.
- Niska befriends Sophie. Her icy attitude towards humans is starting to thaw.
- The Conscious Synths and the Hawkins get to understand one another about their attitudes toward each other.
- Joe’s plan to protect his family backfires when the police arrive answering his 911 call last night about Leo and Max. Laura is angry at him and says that he made things worse. Leo tells them they are leaving after Max is full recharged.
- Mia defends Joe’s action to Laura saying he is only trying to protect his family, just like Leo is doing for his. She then suggests that Laura open up to Joe about Tom.
- At dinner time, Laura is worried about them leaving and not knowing if they will be alright. She said the world will never know you existed. Mia reassures her that as long as you know we exist they will be okay.
- Sophie touches the subject of life and creating life. Mia tells her that they can’t reproduce, but Niska tells her it is possible. Mia discovers that Leo has been keeping a secret from her about David’s dream of creating more Conscious Synths.
- Joe and Laura talk about what would happen if Synths could reproduce. Joe is terrified of the idea of millions of Conscious Synths. Laura believes they have the right to live free and grow. Mia, Niska, Fred and Leo talk about it as well. Niska is afraid that the Hawkins will turn them in if they don’t leave right now.
- Max is fully recharged but his mind is still damaged. Laura and Joe saw Niska on the tv hurting humans at the smash club. Niska tries to convince Laura that she has changed but she wants them to leave.
- Leo starts to get his stuff when Karen appears. He freaks out. Karen tries to convince him that everything will be alright. Just then Hobbs and the police storm in place everybody under arrest. They take Leo and the other Synths into custody.
Next week is the season finale. What will happen to Leo and the others? Will the Hawkins try to save them? Thankfully the show is picked up for a second season so the journey continues.
