It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything from Baz Luhrmann‘s take on F. Scott Fitzgerald‘s classic novel, The Great Gatsby. The movie was originally slated to have a 2012 release date but was pushed back for some unknown reason. Today, we get news that rap GIANT Jay-Z is expected to compose for the movie.

I’m a huge Jay-Z fan, and I think this is a pretty enterprising idea. Luhrmann is known for having unique music with all his movies. He worked with Radiohead for Romeo + Juliet, and Madonna for Moulin Rouge! Jay-Z has worked with Ridley Scott to do American Gangster‘s soundtrack. It should be very interesting to see how Jay-Z works within Gatsby’s 20’s time period.

The Great Gatsby is expected for a May 2013 release.
