This is the third installment of the Xmen trilogy that began with X-Men First Class.  With this being perhaps the last chapter, director Bryan Singer uses all his talent and imagination to bring us a film that pulls our emotions in every direction so when the movie is done you will leave the theater feeling like you went twelve rounds with Ali, Tyson, and Balboa all at once.  He packs the film with spectacular special effects and heart wrenching dramatic scenes that displays the powerful abilities and the extreme vulnerabilities of each and every mutant and their struggles.  The storyline of Apocalypse is a very popular topic for the comic book fans.  It is given that Magneto, the Sentinels, even Jean Grey are mutants that display extremely powerful abilities, but Apocalypse is something different.  Yes, he is a mutant but his timeline is ancient and his abilities are god like.  If you look back to all the Xmen films, these favorite characters have battled mutant killing robots, Magneto, and the general hatred and fear among society, but I feel all that has led up to this moment when they fight against a god.

The film takes place in the 80’s where we jump ahead to where we meet a young group of mutants that will be our famous Xmen in the future; Cyclops, Jean Grey, Nightcrawler, and Storm.  Singer does a good job portraying these kids as impulsive, raw, and undisciplined as they learn to control their powers plus acting out their age and immature behavior.  In the beginning of the film, each character is introduce and given a chance to explain his or her life and how they struggle to be a mutant.  Evan Peters, who plays Quicksilver is the only recurring young mutant as we saw him in the previous film, Days of Future Past.  His loose attitude and comedic attitude is refreshing in this dark and heavy film about the end of the world.  The other new additions like Cyclops played by Tye Sheridan , Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Kodi Smit- Mcphee as Nightcrawler, and Alexandra Shipp as Storm blaze their way onto the big screen with impressive performances.

The story focuses on the introduction of the young mutants from the Xavier school and their first battle against a very powerful mutant.  Director Singer captures the innocence and the maturity of these characters and pushes their potential to be something great.  Singer also captures the tragic story of Erik Lehnsherr, his painful loss of his family, how he fell from grace and into the clutches of Apocalypse.  Just like in the previous film, Day of Future Past, Singer uses a great soundtrack to amplify the emotions and enhance the dramatic effect within this film.  Watching the story unfold, you get a better understanding as to what these characters endure, and working together can accomplish.

Oscar Isaacs, who plays Apocalypse did a great job portraying this all powerful giant.  At first I was skeptical, but when he first spoke, chills ran down my spine.  His voice can soothe the craziness of people or put fear into you.  His demeanor and attitude echoes superiority and egotistical.  His performance reminds me of his role in Robin Hood where he plays Prince John and how he manipulates and forces his way to get what he needs to survive.  I loved him in that.

From the beginning to the end, it never stalled.  It keeps going, giving us a roller coaster ride of emotions, dazzling special effects, raw emotions, and kickass action sequences.  We also get to see the Professor BALD!!

I give this film four out of five movie stubs.
