I’ve made it no small secret that Mark Millar is my favorite comic book writer. I have loved his work since he created the Ultimate Universe in Marvel; but his real bread in butter has been in his creator-owned properties. None of which are more well known than Kick-Ass. With three series, one spin-off, and two comics; Millar seems to love the character as much as we do. Now he’s introducing a new Kick-Ass who will be African American and Female. John Romita Jr. will be back to draw the new title.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Millar has this to say about the change in the character:

“Comics is not short of white males aged around 30; that demographic seems pretty well catered for in popular culture. I don’t think many blonde white guys around 30 feel under-represented when they pick up comic or watch a movie. Being older or younger or female or African-American just seems more interesting to me as a writer because this character is quite unique and opens up story possibilities that haven’t been tried in almost eighty years of superhero fiction. This woman has a completely different take on Kick-Ass.”

At the same time as the new Kick-Ass comic, Millar will be launching another Hit-Girl spinoff series that will be drawn by Rafael Albuquerque (American Vampire). The first arc will be written by Millar and then continued on by Daniel Way (Wolverine). It’s a great time to be a Millar fan and as more news comes in regarding MillarWorld, we’ll be sure to keep you posted here at DFAT!
