Good morning Towelites! It’s time once again to round up the latest news and rumors surrounding Marvel Studios’ Phase 2!
Looking forward to the new S.H.E.I.L.D. tv series coming to ABC this fall? Of course you are! Production has started and we have a pic from the set featuring a S.H.E.I.L.D. issued pickup truck! Not too much to look at but you know that more is to come!
Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series features a cast that includes Clark Gregg’s resurrected Agent Phil Coulson, as well as SGU vet Ming-Na, Chloe Bennet, Brett Dalton, Elizabeth Henstridge and Iain De Caestecker as the other agents of the team. Nick Fury himself, Samuel L. Jackson also recently stated that he expected to be involved in some small capacity.

Another villain has been added to Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Toby Jones who played mad scientist Arnim Zola will return to the role according to HeyUGuys. No word what capacity the role will involve but I hope that we will see the more comic accurate version of the robotic Zola!

UPDATE!
Two big names are being thrown around as contenders for roles in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy! According to Latino-Review (who is pretty dead on for rumors) Jim Carrey, who will actually be appearing in Kick-Ass 2, and Adam Sandler are being scouted out by Marvel for unknown roles at this time! Interesting eh? I believe that the two are being scoped out for the two voice roles of Groot and Rocket Raccoon, this would make a lot of sense. Besides the fall cry-out for Michael Rooker as Rocket, this is the only movement on the casting front for these two characters so far. Also being reported are a few more names for the role of Starlord, they include Wes Bentley, Chris Lowell, and Cam Gigandet. So Towelites get ready because there should be some major casting movement in within the next couple months! Keep it here to DFAT for your Guardians of the Galaxy updates!

So we have more news than YOU can handle on the Iron Man 3 front today! First up we have Marvel Studios President Kevin Fiege talking about the tone of the movie, the Mandarin and the future of Tony Stark in the movie universe!
Where is Tony at the beginning of Iron Man 3
“So much of the journey of Iron Man 3 is informed by Tony’s experiences in The Avengers. It’s almost like post-traumatic stress: he really has retreated after the events of The Avengers into his workshop, where he’s building advanced versions of his suits. He has [designed] a version of the suit that can latch onto him in individual pieces … anytime, anywhere. As he starts to realize, it’s basically because he doesn’t want to be out of the suit: he’s seen a lot of things in Avengers and has encountered a lot of powerful people, much more powerful than he is. It brings us back to the Tony we met in the first part of Iron Man where he’s removed from that convoy and brought to the cave with nothing but a box of scraps. It’s fun for all of us to watch Tony try to figure out how to get out of that scenario. Much of the movie is Tony in the middle of the country without his tools and a fairly broken suit to help him. But that’s his superpower: he wasn’t born on Asgard, he wasn’t hit by gamma rays, and he doesn’t have the super soldier serum. His power is his brain. It’s fun to put Tony Stark in a corner with nothing and see how he can get out of it.”
Regarding the Mandarin
“We felt there was leeway to explore the Mandarin in a way that hasn’t been explored before. We found we couldn’t point to any sort of definitive Mandarin story in the comics — but if you print this, I’m sure a million fans will point to a specific story — so as we’ve done with many of the films, we did an amalgamation. The Mandarin is relentless: he’s a non-stop threat, and you’ve seen that in the first teaser trailer when Tony Stark’s house tumbles into the sea. He doesn’t mess around, this guy.”
Shane Black’s vision for the Mandarin
“He had a take on the Mandarin that fit with where we wanted to take Tony in this movie,” Feige said of Shane Black. “Shane is as much about tone as he is about any specific dialogue that he writes. He brings such a love of cinema and of this character in particular to the movie that I hope will make it feel fresh all over again. None of us wanted to do Fu Man Chu. We weren’t interested in that in the least. When we took away the notion of the Fu Man Chu and ‘I found rings in a spaceship,’ we got much more to ‘How do we bring his Ten Rings organization and make it scary the way real-life terrorists can be scary, but also much more theatrical and flamboyant, like how the Mandarin was in the comics?’ So we made him very public and had him take credit for his actions, to announce them in a very public way before striking. That’s good for a movie, because it makes things very dramatic, and it also brings the Mandarin into the 21st century, where the videos you pass through the 24-hour news cycle is as important as the strike itself.”
The future of the movie-verse Tony Stark
“Characters like James Bond and Batman, whose stories go on and on and on — I think Tony is one of those characters. Where we go directly after Iron Man 3 … I’m not looking too far ahead. I’m looking to finish Iron Man 3, getting into Avengers 2, and then seeing where we go from there. But I do think we have more Tony Stark tales to tell, and we’ll take it one movie — or maybe two movies — at a time.”

Here’s a video of the filming at the Chinese Theatre in Hollywood:
So one of the best merchandise from all of comic-dom is LEGO and their AWESOME sets that have been coming out! Iron Man 3 will see some sets dedicated to the movie and its characters. According to Brick Fanatic there will be a set based on the attack of Tony Stark’s mansion, the details reveal this:
Tony Stark, Iron Man mk42, Pepper Potts, Mandarin and a pale green bad guy we were not allowed to know the name of.
Speculate all you want but I think it is Radioactive Man! It was rumoured before that Xueqi Wang would play Radioactive Man’s alias Chen Lu in the film but he was later announced as playing Dr. Wu. So what will happen? are we getting closer to the formation of the Masters of Evil? Make it so Marvel, make it so!
Last but not least today, Iron Man 3 will be released into IMAX theaters, here’s a quote from Greg Foster, Chairman and President of IMAX Filmed Entertainment:
“Marvel and IMAX are a perfect one-two punch and the Iron Man franchise has become a global phenomenon that resonates with fans around the world. We look forward to moviegoers experiencing this highly-anticipated next installment of Tony Stark’s latest adventures in IMAX 3D.”
Iron Man 3 will hit IMAX internationally starting April 25th and domestically on May 3!
So get excited Towelites!! Iron Man 3 will be here before you know it and Phase 2 will be in FULL SWING!!!! Catch up on all the news and rumors from Marvel Studios’ Phase 2 here!
