As many of you know, my favorite comic series of all time is Preacher. The Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon is a book of unabashed genius and violence and it’s been in development for television forever. About a year ago it finally starting getting traction from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg; as they brought the project to AMC. We’re about another year away from seeing the adaptation hit the screen but we finally have our first piece of casting news.

Ruth Negga

Ruth Negga from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Misfits has been cast as Tulip, the ex-girlfriend of Jesse Custer. Tulip is one of three main characters that include her, Jesse, and their vampire friend named Cassidy. Tulip has blonde hair and blue eyes in comics, but I don’t really care about the casting change since Negga is one of the few things I love about Agents and has the acting chops to carry a strong female lead.

Here’s the synopsis:

Based on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s twisted ’90s comic book series, “Preacher” is about Jesse Custer, a conflicted Preacher in a small Texas town who merges with a creature that has escaped from heaven and develops the ability to make anyone do anything he says. Along with his ex-girlfriend, Tulip, and an Irish vampire named Cassidy, the three embark on a journey to literally find God.
