I’ve been a long time fan of the Ratchet & Clank series from Insomniac Games. I remember the first commercials were some of the first to do found footage correctly, as a bunch of teenagers got the crazy guns that Ratchet uses in the game; like the one that turns people into sheep. Fourteen years past that time, and we’re finally seeing these loveable characters make their way to the big screen.
The film was supposed to come out this Summer and was pushed back until next year, but I’m okay with that. If a studio pushes a movie back and it ends up being awesome, then it’s worth the wait. I’m hoping that’s the case with this one, and looking at the trailer below, it seems like it will be.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Ratchet and Clank tells the story of two unlikely heroes as they struggle to stop a vile alien named Chairman Drek from destroying every planet in the Solana Galaxy. When the two stumble upon a dangerous weapon capable of destroying entire planets, they must join forces with a team of colorful heroes called The Galactic Rangers in order to save the galaxy. Along the way they’ll learn about heroism, friendship, and the importance of discovering one’s own identity.
My favorite thing about this film is that it’s using the voice actors from the video game. They didn’t juts put John Goodman and Rosario Dawson in there to voice the main characters, instead they left it to the people who made the characters famous. Maybe when we see a live-action version of Uncharted we can have Nolan North dub whoever plays Nathan Drake on the big screen. Also, the film is helmed by TMNT director, Kevin Munroe! I can’t wait for April of 2016.
